Conservatism Makes You Crazy

Yes its true. Conservatism makes you crazy. Or at least it makes you do bad things. Some real heavyweight psychological institutions got together back in 2003 and did this little study. Here is a link to the study.

Analyzing political conservatism as motivated social cognition integrates theories of personality (authoritarianism, dogmatism–intolerance of ambiguity), epistemic and existential needs (for closure, regulatory focus, terror management), and ideological rationalization (social dominance, system justification). A meta-analysis (88 samples, 12 countries, 22,818 cases) confirms that several psychological variables predict political conservatism: death anxiety (weighted mean r .50); system instability (.47); dogmatism–intolerance of ambiguity (.34); openness to experience (–.32); uncertainty tolerance (–.27); needs for order, structure, and closure (.26); integrative complexity (–.20); fear of threat and loss (.18); and self-esteem (–.09). The core ideology of conservatism stresses resistance to change and justification of inequality and is motivated by needs that vary situationally and dispositionally to manage uncertainty and threat.

Wade,

Thanx for the comments. However, I would like to point out that you are only using a strawman. First of all, atheism doesnt make any claims about the origin of the Earth or existence. Atheism merely states that there are no gods.

Secondly, materialism and current scientific theory (two things that mesh well with atheism), state that Earth, or the universe, did NOT come from nothing. They state that the universe has always existed and was never created ex nihilo.

Are you familiar with the laws of thermodynamics? Creationists misrepresent the second law of thermodynamics all the time in their attacks against evolution. But the FIRST law of thermodynamics, also known as the law of conservation of matter/energy, states that matter and energy can never be created nor destroyed; they merely change forms. Matter and energy (what the Earth and universe are made out of) are eternal. They are timeless. They have always existed, and always will exist. There is no "something from nothing" claim within atheism, or materialism, or popular scientific theory on cosmology.

In fact, it is only the theistic, religious (including Christian) worldview that something came from nothing, or ex nihilo. Christianity and most other religions claim that an immaterial God created this material universe. Hence, the "something from nothing" claim resides within theism and Chrstianity.

So what are you doing Wade? You are attacking the religious worldview, and defending the materialistic worldview without even realizing it.

Now that Ive exposed your strawman, shown that you and the materilastic atheists are in agreement that something cannot come from nothing, and demonstrated that it is in fact Christianity and theism that makes this "ex nihilo" claim while materialism does not, are you ready to de-convert and become a materialistic atheist yet?
