People need milestones in their life. This can be said about any holiday really, birthday, anniversarys, new years, Christmas, Valentine's Day.
Holidays help break up the monotony of life. We don't need them, but it certainly helps.
Humans are temporal creatures. Our lives are marked by symbols which acknowledge the passage of time.
Some people, like UberKuh, are obsessed with number sequences. Some people want to have a tally or some quantifiable measurement to look back on.
Then some people, like me, just want an excuse to party their ass off and get wasted!
