Everyone who thinks the anti-abortion movement only has their sights set on pregnant women, raise your hands please.
Okay, everyone with their hands raised, YOU'RE WRONG.
If you thought Roe v. Wade was the only Supreme Court decision targeted for overturning, let me introduce you to Griswold v. Connecticut:
The Connecticut statute forbidding use of contraceptives violates the right of marital privacy which is within the penumbra of specific guarantees of the Bill of Rights.
That is to say, the Bill of Rights grants married people the right to use birth control if they so choose.
Not so fast, says the ultra-Catholic American Life League:
This confusing language, which has no relationship whatsoever to what the Founding Fathers intended, gave married women permission to use the birth control pill. The Supreme Court literally created the "right to privacy" out of thin air.We now know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that not only did the Supreme Court literally make up the right that you claim gives you permission to use birth control, but the most popular form of birth control, the pill, can kill innocent preborn children. If there is a chance that human beings are going to be murdered, I am going to do everything in my power to help prevent that from happening. If you knew there was a chance that someone might poison your neighbor, don't you think you would try to notify your neighbor and do as much as you could to help save a life?
Stock up on your birth control, ladies- the Catholics are coming to get you!

Ugh...as if birth control isn't already expensive enough. Especially on college campuses, where pretty much NOBODY has sex to get pregnant, got shafted by the Deficit Reduction Act (which is Bush's fault, mainly). Now we have to deal with the Catholics too?
When will people realize that humans are going to have sex for fun NO MATTER WHAT? When are they going to learn that EVERYBODY HAS SEX? When are they going to learn that efforts to promote abstinence are FUTILE? It really pains me to see peoples' lives ruined left and right because of our irresponsible country's utter failure to teach sexual medical health?

What nonsensical legal reasoning. A penumbra? What the fuck is that? Griswald was a bad decision upholding a stupid law. Hugo Black, who was very liberal and a smart guy, voted in the minority on this case.
I don't favor laws against birth control pills, but no way were or are they unconstitutional.
And honestly, how likely is it that any state would ban birth control pills in 2008?
pen-um-bra: a body of rights held to be guaranteed by implication in a civil constitution.
It's not just Catholics who are out to get you if you want contraception (or, in the case of this story, the morning-after pill, which I belive is called Plan B in the USA).
